AdBlue
AdBlue is a diesel exhaust fluid used in most modern diesel vehicles fitted with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. It reduces harmful nitrogen oxide emissions by converting them into harmless nitrogen and water vapour. Without it, your engine management system will limit performance and, eventually, prevent the car from starting.
If your AdBlue warning light is on, don’t ignore it. The system gives you plenty of notice, but it does run out, and running it completely dry can cause more serious issues.
Consumption varies depending on your engine, driving style, and mileage. Most drivers top up every 5,000 to 10,000 miles, though some vehicles go through it faster. Your dashboard warning light will alert you when levels are getting low so as a rule, don’t leave it too long once it comes on.
AdBlue is required in most diesel cars and vans manufactured from around 2015 onwards that meet Euro 6 emissions standards. If you’re unsure whether your vehicle uses it, your handbook will confirm it, or simply ask us.
At RCJ Automotive, we carry AdBlue for all common makes and models. If your warning light is showing, drop in or give us a call and we’ll get it sorted.
